Are habits ruling your food choices?

Is that right? Hang on let me think about that a moment.

My morning takeaway breakfast, be it coffee and a pastry, coffee and toast, or a Fruit laden smoothie I just grab and go as that is my habit and what I do.

Or is because I don’t have time and I have found a solution. Something fast for breakfast. But do I even value what that solution is now. Am I paying attention anymore and is it still right?

That habit, the familiarity, the comfort, the distraction whatever you call it is your unconsciousness on auto pilot. That beautiful mind of yours is doing what it does best, repeat that habit as it was trained for some time by a thought and which lead to an emotion and an action. But do we even realise. Do we stop to notice what is going on.

Doing good for your body can mean thought. Actually I know it means thought, and sometimes that thought needs to be questioned. Why is this going on? How long have I being doing this for? Where did this come from? It can mean breaking the lines to what you used to do, or always did or like to just do, because, well just because.

Could this be getting in the way of your health goals or making you feel up on top every day. Could this be the cause of the constant stomach hick ups and skin outbreaks? You’re darn right it is getting in the way, so you may want to look closer.

Its not necessarily because you don’t know you are doing particular behaviours it’s whether you are taking notice and paying attention (willing to change that pattern) and question its validity now. You may even need to dig deeper for that reason of why we started to do something in the beginning. Was it a need, an emotion or a belief? Maybe your parents told you or taught you this or you learnt it back then, but now, how does it fit in? Is that reason even right now? And most importantly does it feel good?

Starting to change or look deeper at habits is hard and not something that comes naturally. But if its leading or edging you down the wrong path, then its another obstacle in the way of really getting you where you want to be.

As Tony Robbins says there are 3 things to change your Neuro-Associative Conditioning.

1. Get leverage on yourself – something has to change, you must change it and you can change it.

2. Interrupt your current pattern of association. Scramble what you do to change the thinking and feeling, radical change makes it easier.

3. Condition a new empowering association. Install a new choice and reinforce it until it is conditioned. Link pleasure to the new choice. When it is consistently reinforced it will become a habit.

Good health and nutrition does mean valuing yourself and paying attention. Whilst many of us have lost touch of looking at this a.k.a ignoring the skin and gut concern, now may be the time to stop and admit “Are your habits really impacting your health?” Let me know if this may have crept up on you, and how you think you can resolve it.
